 Mechanical Systems (NEMS) resonators and switches have been identified as 
 some of the most promising technologies that will enable the More Moore an
 d More than Moore evolution of the semiconductor industry. These devices w
 ill yield transformational improvements over state-of-the-art semiconducto
 r-based products by decreasing power consumption\, increasing frequency of
  operation and enhancing sensing resolution. This will in turn revolutioni
 ze computing\, chemical/biological sensing\, and radio frequency (RF) and 
 microwave communication.A major challenge for developing NEMS based techno
 logy is the ability to efficiently transduce the mechanical device at the 
 chip scale. This talk presents remarkable opportunities associated with th
 e scaling of piezoelectric AlN films to the nano realm and their applicati
 on to the making of efficient NEMS resonators and switches that can be dir
 ectly interfaced with conventional electronics.
