DESCRIPTION:Mr. Murray Cutforth - Univ. of Cambridge\; Corpus Christi Coll
ege\, Cambridge\, UK\nThe problem of simulating multi-phase flow occurs in
a wide range of scientific and industrial applications of computational f
luid dynamics\, including inertial confinement fusion. One of the key issu
es in these simulations is tracking the location and geometry of the inter
face which separates the various fluids. The interface may undergo deforma
 tion\, break-up\, and coalescence\, making this a non-trivial task.\nIn th
is talk I will describe the most popular approaches to interface tracking
in fixed-grid computations\, which are known as the Front Tracking\, Level
Set\, and Volume-of-Fluid (VOF) methods. Each method has unique advantage
s and disadvantages\, and they remain active areas of research. There will
be a particular focus on recent developments to the VOF method\, and I wi
ll describe my on-going work to improve the accuracy of this method by int
roducing extra information about the interface geometry into the algorithm
 .
