DESCRIPTION:Dr Stefan Witte Free\, University of Amsterdam\nThe ability to
image biological objects at the sub-cellular level is of major importance
for life science and clinical diagnostics. Especially in neuroscience\, l
abel-free 3D microscopic imaging modalities are highly needed.\nIn this ta
lk\, I will present our research efforts on third-harmonic generation (THG
) microscopy\, which we have shown to be a powerful technique for live bra
in imaging with sub-cellular resolution [1]. THG microscopy allows high-re
solution structural imaging of grey and white matter as well as red blood
cells with good contrast\, and even enables guided patch clamping deep ins
ide brain tissue.\nIn the quest towards ever higher resolution\, we have r
ecently started a research project on soft-X-ray imaging\, with the goal o
 f single-cell imaging at ultrahigh resolution\, using a compact table-top
setup based on high-harmonic generation. As this is a wavelength range whe
re good-quality imaging optics are problematic\, we are working on the dev
elopment of high-resolution lensless imaging techniques. I will discuss ou
r results on lensless diffractive imaging with ultra-broadband sources [2]
 \, as well as our progress towards soft-X-ray imaging.\n[1]S. Witte\, A. N
