DESCRIPTION:Chung-Chi Lin\, ESA Head of Microwave Instruments Section in t
he Earth Observation Programmes\nThe Post-EPS mission will be deployed in
the 2018 – 2020 timeframe in order to ensure continuity of the EPS (EUME
TSAT Polar System) observation missions\, currently realised with the MetO
p satellite series\, to support operational meteorology\, in particular fo
r the numerical weather predictions (NWP)\, climate monitoring and to deve
lop new environmental services. The windscatterometer (SCA) is one of the
high priority payload instruments to provide vector surface wind observat
ions over ocean\, which constitute an important input to the NWP as well a
s valuable information for tracking of extreme weather events. The Post-E
PS SCA shall offer observations with higher spatial resolution than those
provided by ASCAT on board MetOp. Furthermore\, addition of HH polarizati
on is considered as an option.
