DESCRIPTION:Dr. Gian Giudice\, CERN\nThe Large Hadron Collider (LHC)\, now
operating at CERN\, is one of the most ambitious scientific projects ever
achieved. In this seminar I will present the physics goals of the project
\, addressing the questions for which experiments at the LHC are expected
to provide answers. The main motivation of the LHC is the exploration of t
he mechanism of electroweak symmetry breaking. The search for the Higgs bo
son is the most immediate goal\, but the phenomenon of electroweak breakin
g may hide revolutionary insights on the concepts of space\, time\, symmet
ry\, and forces. I will also comment on the role of large scientific proje
 cts.
