 lk will consider evidence from human brain imaging research supporting the
  hypothesis that neurodegenerative diseases progress along brain networks.
  Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the best-supported model for this hypothesis 
 in that convergent\, multimodal data from numerous labs suggests AD specif
 ically targets a large-scale\, distributed set of brain regions known as t
 he default-mode network. The next best example is behavioral variant front
 otemporal dementia (bvFTD) which has been linked to a second\, distinct ne
 twork\, referred to as the emotional salience network. Recent work has sug
 gested that imaging approaches may complement basic science efforts to ass
 ess different candidate mechanisms of disease-spread across a network. Ima
 ging methodology advances continue apace and will help overcome a number o
 f current limitations to brain network imaging. Ongoing studies will begin
  to elucidate the cell- and molecular-level underpinnings of these systems
