DESCRIPTION:Dr. Denis von der Weid \, Founder and Director of Antenna Tech
nologies\nBio: A doctor in law from the University of Fribourg\, and gradu
ate of INSEAD\, the international business school based in Fontainebleau\,
Denis von der Weid left Switzerland for Colombia to focus on the issues o
f North-South and hunger. Upon his return to Fribourg\, he taught developm
ent economics and set up a organisation in the same field\, and was called
upon to teach in Fontainebleau. Several years ensued in the management of
Sandoz\, before returning to the field\, in India. In 1984\, he set up An
tenna\, as an association\, as a network of lawyers – and as a supplier
of clandestine radio transmitters to assist human rights activists in a nu
mber of countries. By 1989\, the organisation had metamorphosed into Anten
na Technologies to build up the role of scientific research in the struggl
e against extreme poverty.\nLiving at the Base of the Pyramid\, the very p
oor survive without access to safe drinking water\, nor to a varied diet\,
a reliable power grid or modern medicines. They can change that\, they ca
n make the difference to their own lives if we share with them with the fr
uits of our research. Research in the South\, for the South and with the S
outh. Research on disease\, on access to water\, and on poverty and hunger
. Today\, too little science is applied to development goals. The talk wil
l be given by the founder and director\, Dr. Denis von der Weid\, of Anten
na Technologies\, a Swiss registered charitable foundation\, working on re
search and dissemination of technologies which are appropriate to the basi
c needs of the most vulnerable communities. His group enable the poorest t
o access simple\, low-cost innovations for improving their quality of life
\, involving communities in their health care.\nPlease fill in the doodle
