 ion.ac.il/\nCloud radio access networks (C-RANs) emerge as appealing\narch
 itectures for next-generation wireless/cellular systems\nwhereby the proce
 ssing/decoding is migrated from the local\nbase-stations/radio units (RU) 
 to a control/central units (CU)\nin the "cloud".\nThis is facilitated by f
 ronthaul links connecting the RUs\nto the managing CUs. We focus on oblivi
 ous processing at the\nRU\, and hence the fronthaul links carry digital in
 formation about the baseband\nsignals\, in the uplink from the RUs to the 
 CU and vice versa in the\ndownlink. The high data rate service demands in 
 C-RANs\, imply\nthat even with fast (optical) fronthauls\, let alone for h
 eterogeneous\nfronhauls\, efficient compression of the basedand signals is
  essential.\nIn this talk we focus on advanced robust signal processing so
 lutions\,\nemerging by network information theoretic concepts\, and review
 \nalso the basic approaches to this cloud network.\nMulti-hop fronthaul to
 pologies are also discussed.\nAnalysis and numerical results illustrate th
 e considerable\nperformance gains to be expected for different cellular mo
 dels.\nSome interesting theoretical directions conclude the presentation.\
