 e showed that the maximal prime-to-p quotient of the fundamental group of 
 X is abelian\, and gave a bound on the number of its topological generator
 s. These results were refined in recent work of Borovoi and Demarche who g
 ave a `formula' for the fundamental group in terms of invariants of the ho
 mogeneous space.
