  talk will contextualize the growing global pressure to publish in high-st
 atus\, ISI-indexed journals\, then describe the research methodology devel
 oped in a longitudinal “text-ethnographic” study of 50 scholars of psy
 chology and education located in four European countries (Spain\, Portugal
 \, Hungary\, and Slovakia) and their academic publishing in English. It wi
 ll then present key findings from the research\, conducted with Dr. Theres
 a Lillis of the Open University\, UK. These findings include: the ways tha
 t "literacy brokers" can support scholars' publishing\; the orientations o
 f different types of literacy brokers/gatekeepers to language and writing\
 ; the role of scholars’ participation in academic research networks\; an
 d the controversial practice of "equivalent" or "dual" publishing.Bio :\nM
 ary Jane Curry\, PhD\, is associate professor in the Department of Teachin
 g and Curriculum in the Warner Graduate School of Education\, University o
 f Rochester\, New York. She is co-author of A Scholar's Guide to Getting P
 ublished in English: Critical Choices and Practical Strategies (Multilingu
 al Matters\, 2013)\, Academic Writing in a Global Context: The Politics an
 d Practices of Publishing in English (Routledge\, 2010)\, and Teaching Aca
 demic Writing: A Toolkit for Higher Education (Routledge\, 2002) and co-ed
 itor of Language\, literacy\, and learning in STEM Education: Research met
 hods and perspectives from applied linguistics (John Benjamins\, 2014). Sh
 e has published numerous journal articles in the fields of applied linguis
