DESCRIPTION:Tom Emerson\, architect and principal at 6a architects\nabout
6a architects\n6a architects was founded by Stephanie Macdonald and Tom Em
erson in 2001. Stephanie Macdonald studied  fine art at Portsmouth Colleg
e of Art\, architecture at the Mackintosh School of Architecture and the R
oyal College of Art. Tom Emerson studied architecture in the University of
Bath and also at the Royal College of Art. Their practice has become one
of the leading architectural practices in the UK. Recent projects include
the extension to the South London Gallery and Raven Row gallery that was d
istinguished with an Riba Award in 2011. Two years later they were nominat
ed to the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture - Mies van de
r Rohe Award 2013. Recently 6a architects was awarded the Eric Schelling M
edal for Architecture. Since 2010\, Tom Emerson is Professor of Architectu
re at the ETH Department of Architecture in Zurich.about 5x3\nThe 5x3 is a
cycle of open lectures which aims to present individual practical approac
hes of architects from different European countries. Each semester 5 offic
es are invited to give a conference.  Each office presents 3 of their pro
jects: the very first one and two others. Those 3 projects are like milest
ones that should represent the parcours of the office. The insight into th
e different working methods and the story behind the formation of the offi
ce provides a good opportunity to learn about the different ways to start
and lead an architectural office. The 5x3 lectures are organized by EAST/E
PFL in collaboration with the Forum d’Architecture de Lausanne. △
