o at Boulder\, USA\nEDUCATION\nPh.D. in Signal Processing and Telecommunic
 ations   (2004 - 2007)\nUniversity of Rennes 1\, France.\nThe synthesis
of antenna arrays is a very long standing field in electromagnetism becaus
 e of its many applications (e.g. radar\, radio astronomy\, sonar\, communi
 cations\, direction-finding\, seismology\, medical diagnosis and treatment
). A host of methods have been proposed since the 40's to solve increasing
ly difficult synthesis problems. These techniques range from analytical me
thods (fast but limited to very specific problems) to global optimization
approaches (comprehensive but limited in performances due to their computa
tional burden). Convex optimization has been shown to be a good trade-off
in efficiency/generality between analytical and global optimization techni
ques. The purpose of the talk is to show that a variety of difficult anten
na array synthesis problems can be relaxed as convex optimization problems
and therefore efficiently solved. The synthesis of shape beams and reconf
igurable arrays by phase-only control will be addressed.
