DESCRIPTION:Prof. Andreas Taras\, University of Graz\, Austria\nIn this ta
lk\, a number of current and new proposals for the design of steel cross-s
ections and members against local and global instability will be discussed
. The focus will be put on the scientific methodology used for their devel
opment: on the analytical background\, on the employed experimental and nu
merical methods and their results\, on the concepts behind the formulation
of the design rules for stability\, and their probabilistic validation.\n
Bio : Andreas Taras is assistant professor for steel structure at the Univ
ersity of Graz\, Austria. He obtained his Master and PhD degree from the s
ame university in 2009. His main research interests comprise stability and
ductility of steel structures\, behaviour of tank\, silo and pipeline str
uctures\, and fatigue and fracture in steel structures
