DESCRIPTION:Andrey Shkerin (EPFL)\nGeometry and Dynamics Seminar\nAbstract
: Q-balls are a type of non-topological solitons which is of large interes
t in physics due to its exciting applications to particle physics and cosm
ology. In particular\, in the models of inflation\, the inflaton potential
often allows the existence of such solitons. This opens a question about
the relations between the condensate inflaton solutions and Q-balls. In ma
ny cases\, condensate turns out to be unstable and fragments into the stab
le solitons. We will consider a toy model\, in which both condensate and s
olitons are classically stable\, and transitions between them are caused b
y other processes\, and discuss the relevance of this model to cosmology.
