DESCRIPTION:Hiraku Nakajima\, RIMS Kyoto\n(Note the unusual time and place
 )\nConsider the 3-dimensional N=4 supersymmetric gauge\ntheory associated
with a compact Lie group G and its quaternionic\nrepresentation  M. Physi
cists study its Coulomb branch\, which\nis a noncompact hyper-Kähler mani
fold\, such as instanton moduli\nspaces on R^4\, SU(2)-monopole moduli spa
ces on R^3\, etc.\nIn this talk\, we propose two mathematical definitions
of the coordinate\nring of the Coulomb branch\, using a) the vanishing cyc
le cohomology group\nof a certain moduli space for a gauged sigma-model on
the 2-sphere\nassociated with (G\,M)\, and b) the Borel-Moore homology gr
oup\nof a similar moduli space related with the affine Grassmannian of G.
