  Cyclotron Heating (ECH) pre-ionization is used for plasma start-up in Ver
 satile Experiment Spherical Torus (VEST) to reduce the required loop volta
 ge. For the microwave power absorption profiles in the ECH pre-ionization 
 experiment\, the upper-hybrid resonance layer plays an important role wher
 e mode-conversion and high collisional wave damping occur. In order to ana
 lyze the wave power transfer through this layer by means of full-wave simu
 lations\, a two-dimensional cold magnetized plasma model is applied in the
  commercial software COMSOL Multiphysics. Simulation results and their com
 parison with experimental results will be presented.
