DESCRIPTION:Prof. Ken Burch\, Department of Physics\, University of Toront
o\nMaterials with Nanometer thickness are an appealing platform for device
s as well as exploring the roles of dimensionality\, disorder\, and free c
arrier density in complex materials. To\nthis end we have produced exfolia
ted crystals of Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8 on oxidized silicon substrates. I will discu
ss unique advantages of this technique as well as some of the challenges i
t posses. Interestingly we have observed subtle dierences between the exf
oliated and bulk crystals suggesting the magnons are modified by thinning
 the crystals.
