DESCRIPTION:The purpose of the EPFL Dimitris N. Chorafas Foundation award 
 is to distinguish innovative and high level research.\nTwo prizes are allo
 cated of USD 5\,000 each. Six areas are primed\, with particular emphasis 
 on applied research:\n1. Research\, Development and Applications in High T
 echnology\n2. Life sciences and Medicine\n3. Physics\, Chemistry\, Science
 s of the Very Small and the Very Large\n4. Formal sciences: Mathematics\, 
 Logic\, Statistics and their Applications\n5. Hard Science Solutions to Mi
 llennium Problems\n6. Interdisciplinary Scientific Research\nThe Prizes ar
 e meant to reward pre-graduate scientific contributions made independently
  by junior scientists (in their last year of PhD thesis preparation) at th
 e EPFL.\nAge limit: 32 years. Candidates should defend their thesis during
  the civil year of the submission of the applications to the Foundation. C
 andidates with full time employment cannot apply.
