DESCRIPTION:Alexander MAYE\, Department of Neurophysiology and Pathophysio
logy\, University of Hamburg\nAction-based approaches gain more and more i
mportance in explaining human perception and cognition. They inspire new p
aradigms for studying human behavior and provide new interpretations of th
e underlying neural activity. The main concepts also find fertile ground i
n the field of artificial agents\, where they open prospects for the devel
opment of control architectures which enable robots to cope with the real
world.\nUsing the example of sensorimotor contingency theory\, the talk gi
ves an overview of recent achievements in these fields. They show that app
lication of the theory holds promise\, but also that the concept of action
  needs development.
