DESCRIPTION:Prof. Dr Mahdi BEN FTIMA\, École Polytechnique of Montreal\, 
 Québec\, Canada / Visiting Professor at ENAC-MCS\nNonlinear finite elemen
 ts for concrete structures have seen a remarkable advancement in the last 
 half century with more emphasis on constitutive modelling or reinforced an
 d non-reinforced concrete. Applications were restricted to the analysis of
  simple structures (beams\, columns\, slabs ...etc.)\, comparisons to expe
 rimental tests\, and rarely extended to the design of complex structures. 
 The reasons behind this fact and solutions to them will be addressed by th
 e lecturer. A general methodology with computational\, probabilistic and v
 alidation frameworks will be the core issue of the seminar. Applications f
 rom the industrial field of hydraulic structures\, in which the author was
  involved in the last ten years\, will be presented. Finally\, the lecture
 r will provide an overview of his future research objectives as a newly hi
 red professor at the École Polytechnique of Montréal.\nBio:\nMahdi BEN F
 TIMA is an assistant professor at the École Polytechnique of Montréal\, 
 in the civil\, geological and mining engineering department\, Group of Res
 earch in Structural Engineering (GRS group). He graduated from the École 
 Polytechnique de Tunisie in the year 2000 and received his master and Ph.D
  degrees from the École Polytechnique of Montréal\, respectively in 2004
  and 2014. During the last ten years\, he was involved as a structural eng
 ineer in the design of different large and complex hydraulic structures wi
 thin the international SNC-Lavalin engineering firm (Hydro division of Mon
 treal).
