DESCRIPTION:Prof. Gianmarco De Felice\, Roma Tre University\, Italy\nNew s
trengthening systems based on textiles externally bonded with mortar are c
urrently used in seismic retrofitting of masonry structures. However\, nei
ther rules for the design of strengthening\, nor regulation for the produc
t qualification are yet available. With respect to classical FRP\, these s
ystems ensure a better compatibility and sustainability\, but a lower bond
to the substrate\, which could affect the structural performances. The ta
lk will address current experimental research on these systems\, including
recent shaking table tests to assess the seismic performance.\nBio:\nGian
marco de Felice is professor of structural engineering at Roma Tre Univers
ity and chairman of the Technical Committee RILEM TC 250-CSM "Composites f
or Sustainable strengthening of Masonry". He has been in charge of project
s on heritage conservation\, such as the restoration of Abbey of San Cleme
nte in Casauria supported by the World Monuments Fund after the 2009 L’A
quila earthquake\, and the restoration of the Farnese Palace in Ischia di
Castro\, attributed to Antonio da Sangallo. His current research encompass
es the seismic assessment of architectural heritage\, the retrofitting of
masonry and reinforced concrete structures\, the modelling of soil-structu
re interaction in settlements induced by excavation\, the development of s
 trengthening systems with mortar-based composites.
