 med to understand how cells receive and integrate multiple signals from th
 e extracellular milieu. I focused on Smad proteins and my talk will be div
 ided into two parts. In the first part\, I will describe a new molecular m
 echanism by which the phosphorylation state of the drosophila transcriptio
 n factor Mad determines its ability to transduce either BMP or Wingless (W
 g) signals. In the second part of my talk\, I will describe how Smad4 acti
 vity and stability are directly regulated by the Wnt and FGF signaling pat
 hways through novel MAPK and GSK3 phosphorylation sites located in its lin
 ker region.
