DESCRIPTION:Prof. Stefan Sauter\nComposite Finite Elements are a new class
of finite elements for the\ndiscretization of boundary value problems wi
th complicated\nstructures\, e.g.\, in the geometry of the physical object
and/or\nin the coefficients of the differential operator and boundary con
ditions.\nIn contrast to standard finite elements\, the minimal dimension
of\nthe approximation space is independent of the geometric details\nand t
his is especially advantageous for problems on domains with\ncomplicated m
icro-structures.\nIn our talk\, we will introduce this discretization meth
od for\ndifferent kinds of applications such as Poisson-type equations\,\n
Lamé equation\, and Stokes equation. We will analyse its\nconvergence in
an a-priori and a-posteriori way and illustrate\nthe analysis by numerical
  experiments.
