DESCRIPTION:Prof. Maciej Ogorzalek\, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University\
nIn the last decade fractals from an area of interest restricted for theo
reticians and artistically-oriented members of academic communities came t
o many spectacular applications.\nThis lecture presents an overview of bas
ic geometric concepts of fractal geometry and space-filling-curves.\nFurth
er a number of examples of very advanced applications in microelectronic c
ircuits will be presented. \nThese applications show enhancement of proper
ties of microelectronic circuits through construction of new geometric str
 uctures e.g. in biosensors\, fractal electrodes\, fractal antenna\, solar
cells and super-capacitors\, etc.\nProperties of geometric structures exhi
biting unusual geometries indicate their applicability in ever growing min
iaturization\n(nano-structures) and frequency of operation (TeraHz range).
\nFractal theories apart from bringing ideas to non-conventional geometri
c constructions provide also useful tools for analysis of micro-system ope
ration in the extreme conditions in the nano and tera range when standard
macroscopic physical laws and circuit-theoretic approaches (such as eg. th
e Ohm's law) are not applicable any more. \nProf. Ogorzalek's homepage
