DESCRIPTION:Prof. Aad van Moorsel\, University of Newcastle\nAbstract:\nTh
 e Trust Economics methodology combines insights from economics\, human-com
 puter interaction\, performance modelling and information systems\, with a
 s objective to make better founded decisions about IT security policies.  
 At its core are stochastic models of IT systems\, which take as input huma
 n behavioural tendencies and economic or business drivers.  The output of 
 the model is a preference or utility value\, which stakeholders can use as
  a solid foundation for their decisions\, and can further tune by interact
 ing with the model.  The work on establishing the Trust Economics methodol
 ogy is carried out jointly with HP Labs\, Merrill-Lynch\, Bath\, Aberdeen 
 and UCL\, and we undertake additional related work with UIUC and with Impe
 rial College.  In Newcastle\, our research focuses on the development of a
  Trust Economics ontology for information security investment decisions\, 
 its associated software tools\, case studies in DRM and Access Management\
 , and defining and validating modelling concepts for human behavioural asp
 ects.  In this talk I'll try to illustrate how Newcastle's research adds t
 owards the Trust Economics methodology.\n\nBiography:\nAad van Moorsel is 
 a Professor in Computer Science at Newcastle University\, UK. He worked in
  industry from 1996 until 2003\, first as a researcher at Bell Labs/Lucent
  Technologies in Murray Hill and then as a research manager at Hewlett-Pac
 kard Labs in Palo Alto. He received his PhD in computer science from Unive
 rsiteit Twente in The Netherlands (1993) and has a Masters in mathematics 
 from Universiteit Leiden\, also in The Netherlands. After finishing his Ph
 D he was a postdoc at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign\, Ill
 inois\, USA\, for two years. He has worked in a variety of areas\, from pe
 rformance modelling to systems management\, from web services to cloud com
 puting and on issues of security and trust. His current research agenda ai
 ms at establishing an intelligent enterprise\, with a specific focus on tr
 ust\, privacy and security. The recent research is highly interdisciplinar
 y\, using ideas from social and business sciences\, to gain a deeper under
 standing of issues of trust in\, for instance\, cloud computing. DTI\, EPS
 RC and EU-funded collaborations are ongoing with Hewlett-Packard\, Merrill
 -Lynch\, Imperial College\, Aberdeen\, Bath\, UCL\, various universities t
 hroughout Europe\, and the Business School as well as the Medical School i
 n Newcastle.
