 gy\, The Unversity of Melbourne\, Australia\nAbstract:\nWe have identified
  cohesin\, RAD21 as a gatekeeper of tumor suppressor gene loss of heterozy
 gosity (LOH) and as a direct b-catenin target gene. Accordingly Wnt pathwa
 y activation drives RAD21 expression in human colorectal cancer and high R
 AD21 is further associated with treatment refractory disease. Genome-wide 
 analyses identified RAD21 as a key Polymerase 2 transcriptional regulator 
 of critical colorectal cancer genes including stem cell genes and most une
 xpectedly repetitive elements including LINE-1 (L1) retrotransposons. Inde
 ed\, RAD21 re-activates transcription of normally silenced L1 expression i
 n human cancer leading to associated chromosomal instability. Very recent 
 work now shows a strong association between RAD21 and a second class of re
 petitive genes\, the rDNA clusters transcribed by Polymerase 1. These find
 ing emphasize the diverse engagement of cohesins in a broad spectrum of tr
 anscriptional activities that are subverted in cancer.Additional informati

  in colorectal cancer presented here\, Rob has a long lasting expertise on
  signalling pathways involved in intestinal stem cell biology and tumorige
 nesis. In this field he has contributed substantial studies on the roles o
 f WNT\, CSF1 and\, especially\, the MYB proto-oncogene\, latter of which h
 e has further successfully used as a vaccination target in colorectal canc
