DESCRIPTION:Dr. Emiliano Fable\, Max-Planck-Institut für Plasmaphysik\, G
arching\, D\nThe ASTRA transport code has been recently expanded in three
key areas: the capability of performing free-boundary equilibrium calculat
ions\, the inclusion of a toroidal momentum transport equation based on fi
rst principles\, and finally the coupling with first-principle-based turbu
lence code TGLF.\n-      The axisymmetric equilibrium code SPIDER has
been chosen as the free-boundary Grad-Shafranov solver which allows ASTRA
to evolve profiles inside a dynamical plasma shape\, as well as allowing
prediction of magnetic flux consumption.\n-      A toroidal momentum
transport equation has been included\, which is derived consistently with
plasma quasi-neutrality and known physics of the Reynolds-stress. Neoclass
ical flows are also taken into account\, that can contribute to the rotati
 on dynamics.\n-      The quasi-linear trapped-gyro-Landau fluid code
TGLF [G. M. Staebler\, GA]\, has been coupled to ASTRA. It allows to compu
te energy and particle fluxes based on the combined linear fluid growth-ra
te calculations and fit of the saturation rule based on non-linear GYRO ca
lculations.\nBesides\, ASTRA has been equipped with interfaces to several
other codes as TORBEAM\, STRAHL\, and TORIC\, to allow integrating impurit
y dynamics and self-consistent EC/IC heating profiles into the calculation
s.\nExamples of the application of the new ASTRA7 version will be given.
