DESCRIPTION:Elvis Fornasiere\, CERN\nThe presentation will focus mainly on
  the description of the magnetic and mechanical design of the racetrack mo
 del coil (RMC) dipole magnet realized at CERN. Based on the short model co
 il (SMC) dipole magnet\, the RMC represents an upgrade of the SMC’ struc
 ture in order to test a FRESCA 2 cable. Every magnet is a part of the Euro
 pean project EuCARD\, for which the initial aim of the SMC is to perform R
 &D on the Nb3Sn coil fabrication technology while testing Nb3Sn supercondu
 cting cables. The baseline design features two double-layer racetrack coil
 s\, within a support structure based on bladders and keys technology and s
 urrounded by an aluminum shell. Following successful tests of SMC structur
 es\, modifications were implemented in the design of the coil parts and su
 pport structure in order to accommodate wider cables. While making a valid
  contribution to the development of the Nb3Sn magnets technology\, the fin
 al goal of the high field magnet project is to design\, build\, and test t
 he FRESCA 2 magnet. Additional slides are available upon requests on proje
 cts realized at CERN during my fellowship contract: supervision and decisi
 on making between industrial actors and management committee for the asses
 sment and qualification of a 3D rapid prototyping machine bought by CERN b
 ased on market and technological analysis\; analysis of the literature of 
 irradiation effect on fiber reinforced resins and its resulting degradatio
 n\; developed the Q.A. plan for the busbar production\; analysis of the li
 terature of new techniques of cold soldering using liquid metal and metall
 ic powder as composite solid solutions\; FE and analytical mechanical anal
 ysis in support to the LHC’ splice consolidation effort.
