DESCRIPTION:Prof. J.-P. Steyer\, Laboratory of Environmental Biotechnology
\, INRA Narbonne\, France. \nAnaerobic digestion (AD) plants are highly ef
ficient wastewater treatment processes with \ninherent energy production.
Despite these advantages\, many industrial companies are still \nreluctant
to use them because of their tendency to become instable when operating c
onditions \nchange. There is therefore great potential for application of
instrumentation\, control and \nautomation (ICA) in the field of anaerobic
digestion. This seminar will discuss the requirements \n(in terms of on-l
ine sensors needed\, modeling efforts and mathematical complexity) but als
o \nthe advantages and drawbacks of different control strategies that have
been applied to AD high-\nrate processes over the last 15 years.
