DESCRIPTION:Mirko Trajkovski\, Department of cell physiology and metabolis
m\, University of Geneva\nFood intake\, energy expenditure and body adipos
ity are homeostatically regulated\, and malfunctions of this balance can c
ause obesity. The intestinal microbiota co-develops with the host\, and it
s composition is influenced by several physiological changes\, including o
besity and pregnancy. We are interested on the role of the gut microbiota
in the development of metabolic diseases\, primarily dyslipidae mia and in
sulin resistance\, and in particular the response of the host to the chang
es in the gut microbiota composition. A deeper understanding of these axes
is a prerequisite for optimising therapeutic strategies to manipulate the
gut microbiota and the host response to combat disease and improve health
.\nBio: Mirko obtained his PhD at the Max Planck PhD School in Dresden\, G
ermany in 2005 with his studies on the link between regulated hormone secr
etion and gene expression in pancreatic beta cells. He did his postdoctora
l work at the ETH Zurich with Markus Stoffel working on the miRNAs in obes
ity and insulin resistance\, which led to him being appointed as a group l
eader and a Lecturer in Metabolism and Metabolic Diseases at the Universit
y College London (UCL) in 2012. End of 2013 he was appointed as Assistant
Professor at the Geneva Faculty of Medicine\, and was awarded with the SNS
F professorship\, still remaining affiliated to the UCL as honorary Lectur
er. 2014 he was awarded the prestigious ERC starting grant.
