  low‐melting compound glasses. In this talk I will review our latest res
 ults on fiber‐based plasmonics including spiraling surface plasmon modes
 \, propagating plasmonic molecules and fiber‐based nearfield probes. I w
 ill also talk about hybrid chalcogenide nanowires inside silica fibers\, a
 llowing for the generation of coherent supercontinua in the mid‐IR and f

 sorship for Fiber Optics at the Friedrich‐Schiller University Jena and i
 s head of the research group Fiber Sensors at the Institute for Photonic T
 echnologies (IPHT). His main research topic is combining fibers and nanoph
 otonics with applications in areas such as biophotonics\, plasmonics or no
 nlinear optics. From 2006 to 2012 he was head of the group nanowire in the
  division of Philip Russell at the Max Planck Institute for the Science of
  Light. He spent a twelve months at the Centre of Plasmonics and Metamater
 ials at Imperial College London in 2011. He obtained his PhD in 2006 from 
 the University of Technology Hamburg‐Harburg.
