DESCRIPTION:Dr. Olaf Grulke\, MPI for Plasma Physics\, Greifswald\, D\nIt
is well known that the turbulent fluctuations in the edge of magnetically
confined plasmas contribute considerably to the cross-field transport by t
he convection of particles and heat within the turbulent potential field.
Over the last decade improved spatiotemporal diagnostics revealed a more c
omprehensive picture of the transport\, i.e. the existence of radially pro
pagating intermittent transport events\, commonly called blob-filaments\,
which are routinely observed in the scrape-off layer of tokamaks and have
been shown to even dominate the convective perpendicular particle transpor
 t. These events have attracted great interest\, both experimental and theo
 retical\, since they impact key issues as\, e.g.\, scrape-off layer width\
, wall-recycling\, and divertor heat load. Although common models for radi
al blob-filament propagation are based on magnetic field curvature a simil
ar structure dynamics is also observed in linear magnetic geometry. This t
alk reviews the findings about structure propagation features in both magn
etic field configurations based on results obtained in the Alcator C-Mod t
okamak and the linear plasma device VINETA.
