DESCRIPTION:Dr Malcolm Abbott\, PV light house\, Australia\nCloud computin
g is a very real advance in technology which is enabling an entirely new w
ave of successful businesses and software applications. Over the past four
years PV Lighthouse has been developing and publishing cloud software des
igned specifically for solar engineers. Usage has grown dramatically with
over 1.4 million calculations performed for over 100\,000 unique users. Th
is talk will cover some of the learnings from this experience and highligh
t the advantages of cloud computing to these sorts of applications. It wil
l also provide an update on the PV Lighthouse software capabilities includ
ing some recent additions such as the PV Factory (an educational environme
nt for solar cell manufacturing) and the Module Ray Tracer (used for asses
sing optical losses in encapsulated cells). Finally\, the future roadmap o
f PV Lighthouse will be presented in which highly optimised physics soluti
ons are combined with massive on-demand parallel computing to bring super
computers into the laptops and cubicles of the world’s solar engineers.
