DESCRIPTION:Christoph P. Hauri\, PSI\, EPFL\nThe Terahertz frequency range
(0.1-10 THz) hosts numerous collective modes like phonons\, magnons\, ele
ctromagnons and attempts to excite them selectively by THz radiation have
been undertaken in the past. Recent advance in Terahertz source developmen
ts towards higher intensity opens now new perspectives towards controlling
optical\, magnetic and electronic properties of matter also in non-resona
nt conditions.\nIn this talk I will introduce the currently most powerful
Terahertz laser source developed at the Paul Scherrer Institute [1] and wi
ll discuss experimental evidence for THz-induced strong-field effects obse
rved in a ferromagnetic thin film and semiconductors unraveling magneto-op
 tical and electro-optical phenomena on a sub-cycle timescale [2-4].\nRefer
