 bstract\nIn this paper\, we jointly consider the organization of the Top M
 anagement Team (hereafter: TMT) and firm strategic opportunity exploitatio
 n. Specifically\, adopting a configurational approach\, we study whether d
 ifferent ways to combine selected elements of the TMT’s organizational d
 esign are associated to the number of strategic opportunities exploited by
  the firm. Applying a cluster analysis to a sample of 238 Italian firms\, 
 collected through a large-scale survey addressed to CEOs\, we found that t
 hree well-characterized clusters exist\, which we label as incentive based
  TMT\, empowered TMT\,  and CEO centric TMT. Each cluster represents a sp
 ecific TMT organizational configuration\, defined by diverse stances of ni
 ne organizational design elements. In turn\, these TMT organizational conf
 igurations are associated with different levels of opportunity exploitatio
 n. In particular\, incentive based TMTs and empowered TMTs perform better 
 in exploiting strategic opportunities\, while CEO centric TMTs are associa
