DESCRIPTION:Dr. A. J. Ramsay\nIn this talk I will present the highlights o
 f our recent research on the coherent optical control \nof the exciton and
  spin states of a single InAs/GaAs quantum dot. We study a dot embedded \n
 in a photodiode structure using a photocurrent detection technique\, which
  is a measurement \nof the absorption of the sequences of picosecond laser
  pulses used to resonantly excite the \ndot.  Using this experimental setu
 p\, we can investigate atom-like coherent light-matter \ninteractions in a
  solid-state context\, and develop coherent control schemes to program the
  \nquantum states of single quantum dots.
