DESCRIPTION:David Barnes\n(Queen's University Belfast)\nThere are three ma
jor brands of homotopy calculus: Goodwillie calculus (functor calculus)\,
Weiss calculus (orthogonal calculus) and Goodwillie-Weiss calculus (embedd
ing calculus). The first two are much closer to each other than to the thi
rd\, for example their homogeneous functors are both classified in terms o
f spectra with an action of a group. In particular\, you can always deloop
homogeneous functors in these two cases. In this talk I will report on jo
int work with Rosona Eldred on formalising the long-known comparison of th
ese two theories and making sense of the folk result: n-excisive implies n
 -polynomial.
