DESCRIPTION:Dr. Yasuhiro Suzuki\, NIFS\, Japan\nThe Large Helical Device (
LHD) is an L=2/M=10 heliotron configuration which is completely different
idea to the tokamak. The magnetic field to confine the plasma is produced
by only extenal 3D magnetic field. That is\, the 3D magnetic field structu
re strongly reflects themagnetohydrodynamics (MHD) equilibrium and instabi
lity. In this talk\, we show a topics about the magnetohydrodynamics (MHD)
instability\, which is expected to the collapse event in high central bet
a plasma. If the pressure profile becomes steep in the plasma core\, major
collapse\, which is so-called the Core Density Collapse (CDC)\, appeared.
A speculation driving the CDC is proposed from a nonlinear dissipative MH
D simulation. We show results of the simulation and comparison to experime
 ntal observations.
