 oups\, Teichmüller spaces with the Teichmüller or Weil–Petersson metri
 c and fundamental groups of non-geometric 3-manifolds are all examples of 
 hierarchically hyperbolic spaces and groups. I will describe the main prop
 erties of hierarchically hyperbolic spaces and present a result about thei
 r asymptotic dimension that implies that the asymptotic dimension of the M
 apping Class Group of a closed surface is at most quadratic in the genus.
