 grid scale stress and the subgrid scale fluxes are fundamental to the Larg
 e Eddy Simulation of turbulent flows. In order to better understand their 
 basic properties a lot of different studies have been performed and differ
 ent approaches have been applied. The physical and the mathematical archit
 ecture of these terms have been analyzed in detail\, and recently many exp
 erimental data have been collected both in the laboratory and with field e
 xperiments.\n\nIn the seminar we will discuss some simple formal propertie
 s of the SGS quantities based on the operational LES\, the classical formu
 lation of the Large Eddy Simulation of turbulent flows based on filtering 
 operators. We will see that these simple algebraic properties can be usefu
 l to the analysis of the data and to the study and the improvement of the 
 subgrid models actually in use.
