DESCRIPTION:Organisers\nCharles Eaton (University of Manchester)\nMichael
Livesey (University of Manchester)\nThe central theme of this workshop is
the determination and description of the Morita equivalence classes of blo
cks of finite groups. Related to this are for example the study of derived
equivalences\, source algebras and the determination of other invariants
of a block\, as well as the study of algebras which arise as basic algebra
s for blocks.\nIncreasingly the classification of finite simple groups pla
ys a major role\, and recent advances in our understanding of the blocks o
f finite groups of Lie type are particularly important.\nThe core of the w
orkshop will be five short lecture series on some of the main tools and pr
oblems\, including blocks of finite groups of Lie type in non-defining cha
racteristic\, basic algebras and their computation\, Galois conjugacy of b
locks\, source algebras\, and determination of block invariants.\nThe lect
ure series will be given by:\nMarc Cabanes\, Université Paris Diderot\nJo
 n Carlson\, University of Georgia\nRadha Kessar\, City University London\n
Markus Linckelmann\, City University London\nBenjamin Sambale\, TU Kaisers
lautern\nThe lecture series will be supplemented by a programme of invited
and contributed conference talks and a discussion session.\nWe have a lim
ited number of spaces for other speakers at the workshop. If you are inter
ested in giving a talk related to the theme of the workshop\, then please
 contact Michael Livesey at michael.livesey@manchester.ac.uk.
