DESCRIPTION:Prof. Micha E. Spira\, Department of Neurobiology\, Life Scien
ces Institute\, The Hebrew University of Jerusalem\, Israel\nAbstract\nInt
erfacing neurons with micro- and nano-electronic devices has been a subjec
t of intense studies over the last decade. Major efforts are devoted to im
proving the bi-directional electrical coupling between the neurons and the
electrical devices\, and to increase the spatial resolution of the electr
ical systems. The basic concept that drives the field is based on the assu
mption that “noninvasive” extracellular FPs recording and stimulation
is the only practical way that can be applied to study neuronal networks
in culture and under in vivo conditions. \n\nIn the presentation I will re
port on our progress to fabricate and utilize multi-electrode arrays in wh
ich individual microelectrodes are functionally placed inside a neuron\, f
or intracellular recordings of sub-threshold synaptic potentials and actio
 n potentials.
