DESCRIPTION:Dr Bruno Huttner\, ID Quantique\nOutline\nThe last few months
have seen a flurry of activities around the Quantum Computer. What was see
n until about one year ago as a remote threat is fast becoming a major iss
ue for cyber security.\nInterestingly enough\, the very properties of the
quantum world\, which challenge the current cryptographic systems\, can al
so provide new solutions.\nIn this presentation\, we will review cryptogra
phic applications of quantum technologies. We will describe existing solut
ions such as Quantum Random Number Generation and Quantum Key Distribution
(QKD). These are already used in real-world applications. We will also di
scuss more forward looking applications\, such as long-distance QKD with s
atellites\, Quantum Repeaters and Quantum Memories\, which represent the b
uilding blocks of a future Quantum Internet.Bio\nBruno Huttner is the chai
rman of the Quantum-Safe Security Workgroup (QSS WG) organized by the Clou
d Security Alliance. The QSS WG has been formed to address key generation
and transmission methods and to help the industry understand quantum‐saf
e methods for protecting their networks and their data.\nBruno is an engin
eer (Ecole Centrale Paris) and a physicist (PhD from the Technion\, Israel
Institute of Technology). During an international academic career spannin
g the UK\, Japan and Switzerland\, he studied quantum effects in optical f
ibers\, quantum cryptography and telecommunication. He then moved to the b
usiness world\, as a founder and manager of a start-up\, Luciol Instrument
s in 2000\, active in test&measurements of optical fibers. In 2002\, Lucio
l was acquired by Sunrise Telecom\, an American test&measurement company.
Bruno became General Manager of the division\, which was subsequently dive
sted in 2008. Bruno led a management buyout\, which restarted Luciol in 20
09\, and refocused the company towards the aviation market.\nBruno joined
ID Quantique in 2014\, participating in business development and product m
anagement in the Quantum Security division\, which develops next-generatio
n encryption\, and especially quantum key distribution systems. These syst
ems are designed to be safe against the power of quantum computers\, which
threaten the conventional encryption methods.\nDuring his career\, both i
n academia and in business\, Bruno participated and gave lectures in many
international conferences. He was also active in standardisation organisat
ions\, first in ITU-T on polarisation effects in optical fibers\, then in
SAE\, ARINC and ASD/STAN for applications of optical fibers in aviation\,
prior to his role as chairman of the QSS WG in CSA.
