DESCRIPTION:Prof. Paolo Fornasiero\nHeterogeneous transition metal cataly
sts are generally based on nanoparticles\, that nowadays can be synthesize
with uniform size and shape. The extraordinary advances in material scien
ce support a new vision for nanoscale-inspired design and synthesis of ind
ustrially important catalysts. This precise structural and morphological c
ontrol\, coupled with the possibility to modulate the metal-support intera
ctions\, allowed us to have a step change increase in the activity\, selec
tivity and stability of many industrially and environmentally important ca
talysts. In this context\, renewable energy conversion\, pollution prevent
ion and control are the real challenge of the 21st century and the focus o
 f the present talk.
