DESCRIPTION:Dr Elmar Brockmann\, Swisstopo\, Geodetic Bases and Permanent 
 Networks\nIn the early nineties\, the upcoming satellite geodesy revolutio
 nized the national surveying in Switzerland. The new technology enabled a 
 surveying exceeding the national borders and increased the coordinate accu
 racy significantly. As a consequence\, we have today a new national refere
 nce frame\, aligned to the European and international reference frames\, w
 hich will replace the more than 100 years old Swiss reference frame LV03. 
 Permanent GNSS networks were introduced beginning 2002 based on GPS. In th
 e meantime they were enhanced by the Russian GLONASS and additional satell
 ite systems from Europe\, China and Japan are on they way to become operat
 ional in near future to improve the various existing applications. The pre
 sentation will focus on highlights in the past 20 years of GNSS at swissto
 po\, shows interesting present applications and addresses planned activiti
 es in the MULTI-GNSS era.
