DESCRIPTION:Dr. Luigi Martiradonna\, Editor of Nature Materials\nBio: Lui
gi Martiradonna received a first degree in electronic engineering\nfrom th
e Polytechnic University of Bari and a PhD in innovative\nmaterials and te
chnologies from the University of Salento in Italy.\nHaving been trained i
n nanotechnologies for quantum-dot-based\noptical devices\, during his pos
tdoctoral experience at the Institute of\nIndustrial Science in Tokyo he b
ecame interested in photonic-crystal\nstructures embedding colloidal nanoc
rystals. As a postdoctoral\nresearcher and team leader of the Istituto Ita
liano di Tecnologia\, he\nthen worked on the development of technologies f
or the detection and\nstimulation of neuronal synaptic signals. At Nature
Materials\, which\nhe joined in January 2013\, Luigi handles manuscripts i
n the broad\narea of applied physics\, with a particular interest in organ
 ic and\nflexible electronics\, photovoltaics and materials synthesis.\nNat
ure Materials offers authors high visibility to their work. A team of full
-time\, professional editors selects and commissions articles that have th
e best chances to appeal to the journal's broad audience. In this talk I w
ill convey the editor’s perspective on the life of a manuscript after su
bmission to Nature Materials\, and provide an overview of some editorial i
nitiatives in the Nature journals aiming at improving the peer-review proc
ess and the transparency of published manuscripts.
