DESCRIPTION:Prof. Paolo Fornasiero\, Department of Chemical and Pharmaceut
 ical Sciences\, ICCOM-CNR and INSTM\, Trieste (Italy)\nHeterogeneous trans
ition metal catalysts are generally based on nanoparticles\, that nowadays
can be synthesize with uniform size and shape. The extraordinary advances
in material science support a new vision for nanoscale-inspired design an
d synthesis of industrially important catalysts. This precise structural a
nd morphological control\, coupled with the possibility to modulate the me
tal-support interactions\, allowed us to have a step change increase in th
e activity\, selectivity and stability of many industrially and environmen
tally important catalysts. In this context\, renewable energy conversion\,
pollution prevention and control are the real challenge of the 21st centu
ry and the focus of the present talk.\nBio: Paolo Fornasiero was born in 1
968 in Ruti (Switzerland). In 1992 he obtained the degreeing Chemistry (cu
m laude) and in 1997 the PhD in heterogeneous catalysis both at the Univer
sity of Trieste (Italy). After one year as post - doctoral fellow at the C
atalysis Research Center of the University of R eading (U.K.)\, in 1998 he
was appointed Assistant Professor and in 2006 associate professor in Inor
ganic Chemistry at the University of Trieste. Professor Fornasiero is Asso
ciate Researcher of the National Council of Research (CNR) and from 2008 h
e is the scientific responsible of the CNR Research Unit associated with t
he Institute of Chemistry of OrganoMetallic Compounds (ICCOM) of Florence
and located at the University of Trieste - Department of Chemical and Phar
maceutical Sciences. Since December 2013 un til July 2014 he was visiting
Professor at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) in
Saudi Arabia. Professor Fornasiero is a member of the Italian Chemical So
ciety\, of the American Chemical Society\, of the European Rare - Earth an
d Actini de Society - ERES\, as well as of the INSTM Consortium.
