DESCRIPTION:Prof. Moshe SCHECTER (Ben-Gurion University of the Negev\, Bee
 rsheba\, Israel)\nAnisotropic dipolar magents\, and specifically LiHoF4\,
are archetypal quantum magnets. The relatively weak spin-spin interaction
allows for appreciable quantum fluctuations. Furthermore\, upon dilution b
oth ferromagnetic and spin glass phases are realized\, and effective longi
tudinal fields which are locally random can be induced by the application
of a transverse field. This allows the study of a plethora of phenomena re
lated to quantum magnetism of disordered systems. In this talk I will disc
uss two related topics: (i) The disordering of ferromagnets with competing
interactions by random fields\, and its novelty in comparison to the stan
dard disordering and to the Imry-Ma mechanism. (ii) Quantum arrest and rel
ease in the dynamics of coupled Ho spins upon the enhancement of quantum f
luctuations\, and its correspondence to eletron electron and electronuclea
r spin engtanglement. Relation to existing and future experiments will be
 discussed.
