DESCRIPTION:Dr. Alexia Auffèves (CNRS - Institut Néel\, Grenoble\, Franc
e)\nContrary to natural atoms\, artificial atoms are always coupled to a
 solid-state environment\, e.g. wandering carriers or phononic vibrations o
f the matrix they are embedded in. Because of the decoherence it induces\
, this environment has historically played the role of the villain\, that
alters the potential of the emitter for quantum information purposes. I
will review theoretical proposals and recent experimental developments sh
owing that cavity QED can be used to exploit such decoherence\, to develo
p advanced photonic devices operating at finite temperature.\nReferences:
