  of rational homotopy theory where only finitely many (rather than all) pr
 imes have been inverted. The trade-off is that one has to restrict to spac
 es whose homotopy groups are concentrated in a certain finite range and on
 e has to replace differential graded Lie algebras with algebras over Ching
 's "Lie operad in spectra". If time permits\, we will also consider an ana
 logue of the comparison between spaces and Lie algebras in the setting of 
 telescopic (or K(n)-local) homotopy theory. These results arise from study
 ing the Goodwillie tower of the category of pointed spaces.
